Sensational 3G Phone With TV and Camcorder

24th February 2003

Last August, Samsung Electronics became the first Korean electronics maker to introduce a mobile phone with built-in camera that can shoot motion pictures, store them in the phone memory and play them back on-screen. This week, the company is coming out with a new camcorder phone model (SPH-V3000) with a greatly extended film clip capability.

The SPH-V3000 can be used with the wireless Internet service offered by Korea Telecom Freetel. A real-time streaming format enables the user to view regular or cable TV broadcasts.

The new model can shoot and store up to 30 minutes of video. It comes with a 262,000-color TFT-LCD and dynamic sound User Interface that enables the user to enjoy an assortment of sounds simply by pressing a key.

The SPH-V3000 features a 110,000-pixel CMOS camera and the screen size has three adjustable sizes (two sizes when in recording mode). There are also ten brightness settings and as many as 200 still images can be stored in the memory. The multimedia messaging service feature will send and receive voice and text messages as well as images and melodies.

Wireless data transmission can be as high as 2.4Mbps, and the product supports the downloading of screen savers and ring tones from the Internet as well as other value-added functions.

Samsung Electronics officials predict camcorder phones to make up 10-15% of the Korean mobile phone market this year. To meet this surging demand, the company will expand its camcorder phone line to include models with external 256-color organic electro-luminescence display and models that can be used for videoconferencing.
