The LG G Pad 8.3 has now been officially launched and it's a high-end tablet with an 8.3 inch full HD display. It'll be entering a crowded marketplace where it'll need to compete with the likes of Apple's iPad Mini, Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 and the new Google Nexus 7.
LG will be hoping that the G Pad is more of a success than their last tablet, the LG Optimus Pad, which failed to captivate consumers and consequently didn't sell in huge numbers. Since then the tablet market has only become more competitive , so the G Pad 8.3 will need a great spec and a competitive price to succeed.
LG G Pad 8.3 Specification
The LG G Pad 8.3 is a high-end Android tablet that's compact and light enough to carry around in your pocket. It's also the world's first 8 inch tablet with a full HD display. It's an 8.3 inch WUXGA display running at a resolution of 1920*1080 pixels, which gives it a pixels-per-inch rating of 273 - significantly higher than the iPad Mini and the Galaxy Note 8.
LG's tablet is powered by a 1.7 Ghz Snapdragon processor and has 2GB of RAM, which makes it one of the quickest compact tablets on the market today. Battery life is all-important on a portable tablet and thankfully the G Pad 8.3 has a 4,600 mAh battery.
The latest version of Android Jelly Bean (4.2.2) comes pre-loaded on the G Pad 8.3, which has 16GB of onboard memory, which will be expandable using microSD cards. While, it also comes with a 5 mega-pixel camera and a 1.3 mega-pixel front-facing snapper for video calling.
LG are yet to announce whether the G Pad 8.3 is WiFi only, but it's pretty likely a version supporting 3G will be made available. It's also possible a 4G LTE version will be available - opening up super-fast browsing on the move. We should learn more at the end of this week when LG showcase the tablet at IFA 2013.

LG G Pad 8.3 Price
LG are yet to reveal the price of the LG G Pad 8.3, but our instincts tell us it'll retail for around £330 - a similar price to the iPad Mini and Galaxy Note 8. However, that would still make it significantly more expensive than Google's Nexus 7 (£199) - which is arguably the best value compact tablet available to buy right now.
LG G Pad 8.3 Launch Date
The LG G Pad 8.3 will be available to buy in Europe in the 4th quarter of 2013. We don't have an exact launch date, but October seems most likely. We should learn more at the end of this week when the tablet is showcased at IFA 2013 in Berlin.
