Europe : A new working agreement has been reached involving 3G femtocells and FON wireless technology. The agreement made between Ubiquisys and FON introduces a new "femto fonera" device that can benefit from unused 3G capacity within the femtocell to be shared.
FON users ( Foneros ) agree to share their fixed internet and benefit by having free access to world-wide FON spots. The new agreement is being offered to 3G mobile operators, who in turn, build communities based on the "femto fonera" sharing. This is totally secure via Fon’s router.
The 3G femtocell provides 3G mobile broadband via the 3G operator’s 3G wireless network. With the new "femto fonera" technology, FON users will benefit from first-class 3G mobile broadband via thousands of 3G femtocell users sharing their bandwith and 3G mobile operators will benefit with an increase in 3G mobile broadband uptake and gain additional much needed bandwith capacity.
Femto Foneras could be in homes and offices, but equally in retail and public spaces, both urban and rural. FON and Ubiquisys are in discussion with several mobile operators to evaluate the Femto Fonera concept.
"Users want fast and affordable internet access with their mobile devices," said Martin Varsavsky, CEO FON. "Both FON and Ubiquisys are helping mobile operators to provide new wireless broadband options for their customers. This will help the proliferation of more wireless broadband access worldwide, creating a win-win situation for everyone."
