Ericsson delivers 3G/HSPA to XL in Indonesia
25th September , 2006

ASIA : PT Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk has selected Ericsson to build its 3G/WCDMA network in Indonesia. It will provide higher data rates and enhance the end-user experience through High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA). Ericsson has also been chosen to supply its Mobile Softswitch Solution for nationwide deployment, as well as business consulting services.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will supply radio access products and be responsible for the performance and improvement of the radio network, as well as providing operations & maintenance services. The 3G network deployment includes Java, Bali and Lombok, with a focus on six major cities. Ericsson will also provide business consulting to support XL in its preparation for the launch of its 3G network.

Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch Solution will also be deployed to upgrade and expand XL's 2G and 3G networks across Indonesia and is the first step in the operator's evolution to an all-IP network. This solution supports rapid and cost-efficient growth of capacity and coverage. Through the introduction of a layered architecture, Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch allows XL to have a common platform to offer new and advanced consumer services.

Hasnul Suhaimi, President Director of XL, says: "Our decision to form this mutually beneficial partnership with Ericsson is based on Ericsson's experience in providing cutting-edge telecommunication technology and reliability in delivering its services. We are committed to providing reliable convergent telecommunication solutions to the Indonesian market, and we believe that Ericsson can support us."

Bengt Thornberg, President of Ericsson Indonesia, says: "We are honored to be selected to deploy XL's 3G network in Indonesia and committed to supporting XL during these important steps in the development of its network, by providing an efficient evolution to all-IP and a solid platform for next-generation services in the market."
