3G Operator 3 Ireland Hits 3G network Milestone
20th September , 2006

Europe Ireland : 3G Operator, 3 Ireland has stated it has over 80% of the population can access its mobile media services in addition to nationwide voice and text coverage, giving 3’s customers the most extensive network coverage in Ireland.

Inset Robert Finnegan MD for 3 Ireland quoted below.

Now over 3,200,000 consumers up and down the country have access to the largest 3G network in Ireland and can enjoy mobile entertainment from Barclays premiership highlights to 3’s exclusive music TV show hosted by Tom Dunne. With nationwide voice and text services too, 3’s customers benefit from more network coverage than any other operator.

Robert Finnegan 3’s Managing Director commented: “3 is the newest mobile operator in Ireland, yet we’re already offering the latest technology and services to more people in Ireland than any other network. The 3 Group of companies has led the development of 3G services around the world. We bring that expertise and commitment to Ireland as we challenge the old networks, offering more value and better services to Irish consumers than ever before.”

David Hennessy, 3’s Head of Network Rollout commented: “Our strategy has always been to roll out the most advanced network in the country, creating a better quality service and offering more choice to consumers. With more combined 2G and 3G coverage than any other operator, 3’s customers can enjoy the latest handsets and services up and down the country.”

Since early 2004, in partnership with Nokia, NEC and Siemens Mobile, 3 has rolled out and integrated over 540 radio sites, undertaking one of the fastest network rollouts in telecommunications’ history. As a result, 3 is well ahead of schedule to beat the regulatory requirement of 85% population coverage by the end of 2007 as stipulated by ComReg in its 3G licence agreement.

3’s mobile media services range from multi-player games, sports including action from the GAA, classic comedy like Father Ted, RTE news, movie trailers and music tracks. Recently 3 launched its market-leading offer of 5c text, picture and video messaging for everyone, any network any time.
