Mindspeed Offers 3G Broadcast Video Cable Driver

US : Mindspeed Technologies confirmed an extension of its 3G broadcast video product family with the industry’s lowest-power video cable driver offering standard definition (SD), high-definition/standard definition (HD/SD) and 3G (2xHD) video support.

The M21428 video cable driver is the only dual-differential output cable driver available in the market today and the first to support 2.5V operation in addition to legacy 3.3V. The differential outputs eliminate the need for two discrete external cable drivers, reducing system cost and simplifying design.

The new low-power, dual output cable driver offers broadcast video equipment customers greater flexibility in designing applications such as routing switchers, distribution amplifiers, video tape recorders, post production equipment and cameras as well as other broadcast video applications.

“Our new 3G video cable driver combined with our existing 3G-ready crosspoint switch products and our industry-first 3G multi-rate reclocker is the next step toward enabling our customers the ability to build a single multi-use SD/HD/3G system,” said Jeff Camillo, marketing manager for Mindspeed. “We are committed to offering our customers the most comprehensive line of broadcast video products available.”

The M21428 video cable driver is packaged in a new high-performance micro lead frame (MLF) RoHS (green) compliant package that simplifies circuit board layout and reduces footprint requirements.

Technical Details
The M21428 is a high-speed, low-power, low-jitter cable driver designed to drive serial digital video data through 75O coaxial cable typically used in SMPTE and DVB-ASI video applications. The M21428 cable driver is optimized for performance from 143 Mbps up to 2970 Mbps with selectable slew rates for SD and HD/2xHD applications.

The typical output rise/fall time of the M21428 is 100 ps for HD and 2xHD rates and 600 ps for SD rates. The default output voltage swing is compliant with SMPTE 292M, 259M, 344M and 424M using a 750O +/-1% resistor. The M21428 is pin compatible with the M21418 and M21408 (except the M21408 has no SD/HD slew rate control). The M21428 supports a maximum single ended output swing of 1800 mVp-p when configured appropriately.

Pricing and Availability
Production samples are available now with volumes in December 2006. In OEM quantities of 1000 the M21428 is priced $14.95.
