KPN Selects 3G HSDPA Datacard
5th September , 2006

Above shows the the teams from Huawei and KPN signing the extension of their agreement

Europe : Huawei Technologies announced that KPN has selected Huawei’s High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) datacard to extend the range of mobile services it offers to users. Over an HSDPA network, Huawei HSDPA card with the standard laptop’s PCMCIA interface enables connection to the Internet at data speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps. The KPN subscribers can easily get instantaneous broadband access to Internet, email, instant messaging and video conferencing applications.

The largest full-service operator in the Netherlands, KPN is already working with Huawei to build a complete nationwide 3G/2G Circuit Switch/Packet Switch core network. Offering the HSDPA datacard service will enable KPN subscribers to tap into an enhanced 3G experience, with HSDPA radio technology boosting the data bandwidth of the core 3G network. KPN expects the HSPDA service to expand its appeal to an already strong business customer base, as users can access a range of mobile multimedia services efficiently while on the move and not be disappointed by slow and unreliable download speeds at times when the network is crowded or in popular locations where traffic is dense, such as airports or conference centres.

Peter Westgeest, Director Hardware at the KPN Group, commented on the extension of the relationship with Huawei: "After a month of strict testing, we are delighted to sign a Letter of Intent with Huawei for their HSDPA datacards. Using the HSDPA datacard, our subscribers will be able to enjoy faster access to 3G services such as high-speed wireless web surfing, access to company networks and applications and to quickly send and receive e-mail on the move.”

Willem van Oppen, CPO at the KPN Group, said: “We chose to work with Huawei due to the organsations quick response, innovation and ability to customize its solutions. With Huawei’s support we believe we will maintain our leading position in a very competitive market and look forward to a splendid future together”.

"The ongoing relationship with KPN is evidence of Huawei’s strategy to deliver a full breadth of offerings to telecommunications customers across Europe and our commitment to providing the highest levels of customer service,” added Victor Chen Hai Jun, General Manager of Huawei Netherlands. "It is a significant day for the Huawei Netherlands office as the HSDPA datacard agreement follows our existing collaboration with KPN in the fields of transmission and 3G core networks, and we are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with KPN in the terminals area.”
