Orange 3G TV Results

26th September , 2005

Europe : Orange launched the UK's first mobile TV service in May this year.

In the UK, the summer’s most popular Orange TV channel was Big Brother, which topped 30% of the audience share at its peak (at the start and end of the series – June and August).

However, during the month of July, CNN overtook Big Brother as the most watched channel. The American news giant took an 18% share, closely followed by ITN (16%) with Big Brother coming in third (15%).

Orange first launched mobile TV in Romania and France in December 2004. In June 2005, Orange became the first UK mobile company to launch a TV-on-the-mobile service, offering customers the chance to subscribe to the service (offering nine channels including CNN, ITN, Cartoon Network and Extreme Sports) for £10 per month. Orange most recently launched mobile TV in Switzerland.

Since launching the service, hundreds of thousands of customers have accessed and subscribed to the service in order to watch live TV shows on the move.

Recent Orange data reveals that Orange customers in the UK mainly watch TV during work breaks (36.1%). They also used the mobile TV service while travelling (18.5%), when waiting for friends or in a queue (12.6%) and at home (10.1%).

Orange found its customers were mainly using the service to “snack” on, as opposed to watching full programmes. In both France and the UK, the average mobile TV customer watched TV on the mobile for 35 minutes each month.

Having launched Orange TV over its 3G networks, Orange is now engaged in DVB-H trials which begin in France during the first week of October.
