TDC Mobile will open up the 3G network on October 3, and business customers with mobile broadband PC cards will be the first to get access to the network. Inset is Mads Middelboe, President of TDC Mobile quoted below. This was the message at TDC Mobile’s press conference today at Dansk Design Center (Danish Design Center) in Copenhagen. By mid November, residential customers will also be able to access the network. As of November, it will thus be possible for all TDC's customers to experience video telephony and higher speeds with both the mobile phone and a new mobile broadband card. "We have been very thorough in our preparations of this 3G launch. It is very important for us that the quality is ok. We have run 3G tests with both business and residential customers prior to this launch and we have listened to their comments. Now the technology is ready. Well-functioning mobile phones and mobile broadband cards have hit the market. And the customers are ready for increased speeds. These are the preconditions for TDC Mobile's choice to launch 3G now. We are using the customers' current consumption pattern as basis. Our approach to 3G is evolution – not revolution. We have therefore chosen to give our customers the possibility of accessing the same services and content that they know from their offices and computers at home. With the 3G network, the customers will still get all the good stuff they know today with voice, sms and data. They can merely carry on with what they use today. But they also get the chance to choose more at no additional cost except for the mobile broadband card or a 3G phone," says Mads Middelboe, President of TDC Mobile. Together with the launch of 3G, TDC Mobile is also reducing the prices of data transmission by half for all TDC Mobile's customers. This price reduction applies to all data transmission both in the 3G and the GSM network. The price of voice and sms in the 3G network is the same as in the existing network. Mads Middelboe explains: "We have really made an effort to make it easy for our customers to get started. Irrespective of subscription type, all customers will automatically get access to 3G. The customers will not need a new SIM card, but they will of course need to get a mobile broadband card or a 3G phone. To remove a significant barrier, we have at the same time chosen to reduce prices of data transmission significantly for both business and residential customers. The price reduction becomes effective as at today and is designed to support our wish to make the faster speeds and new services available to a larger audience. It must be easy and accessible. We feel convinced that data will be a driving force behind the growth and we therefore believe that the time is just right for this reduction." With the launch
of 3G, TDC Mobile will offer 3G coverage both indoors and outdoors
to the benefit of as many customers as possible. As previously announced,
TDC Mobile will start by opening the 3G network in Copenhagen, Aarhus,
Odense, and Aalborg and in selected areas with many companies. The
rollout of the 3G network takes place at a carefully considered pace
in line with customer demand and on the basis of an assessment of
commercial possibilities. |
