: Hutchison CAT Wireless MultiMedia Ltd. (HCWML) the marketing service
provider for digital CDMA mobile telephone services, is planning to
begin offering mobile multimedia service to customers using a CDMA2000
1xEV-DO solution provided by Motorola within 2004.
“Motorola’s
high speed data solution will allow customers to enjoy even faster
data access to e-mail, the Internet, file and music downloading plus
other multimedia applications,” said Stephen Ngan, chief operating
officer of HCWML. “It opens a whole new world of user experiences
and adds unique value to our service offering.”
During network
trials, Motorola’s CDMA2000 1x EV-DO solution supported peak
data rates of up to 2.4 Mbps. “Motorola’s CDMA2000 1x
EV-DO solution is designed to integrate with current CDMA2000 1X networks
to help reduce capital expenses through re-use of existing network
equipment,” said Simon L.K. Leung, senior vice president, Motorola,
Asia Pacific. “We can readily upgrade existing Motorola base
stations with the addition of a new Multi-Channel 1xEV-DO Module.”
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO,
the next step in CDMA evolution, is optimized for data services. It
reduces the cost of delivering data, as it enables data applications
at faster speeds. Motorola’s CDMA2000 1xEV-DO offering provides
effective cost management through planned network upgrades that will
integrate with customers’ current CDMA2000 1X networks to maximize
the re-use of their existing infrastructure equipment.
