Innovative 3G Mobile Content Management

21st September, 2004

Europe : elata, a global leader in mobile content delivery and device management software solutions, has today announced that it is partnering with Vignette, a leading provider of information management and delivery solutions, to provide mobile operators with a tailored platform to efficiently deliver and manage a variety of content object types and device standards.

Inset is Elata's Matt Hooper VP of Marketing and Alliances who is quoted below.

As mobile content becomes more rich and varied, operators are faced with the challenge of handling these new content objects in a dynamic delivery environment. The mobile content and delivery solution offered by elata and Vignette will provide a fully unified platform for managing the flexible requirements of a complete mobile content portfolio and will help operators to build and grow the revenue opportunities offered by 3G. The collaboration presents a reliable, end-to-end infrastructure for the creation, management, delivery, billing and operational support of mobile content.

A key component of elata’s industry initiative with Vignette is its ability to handle the increasingly changing shape of new content object types in a dynamic environment, through a single integrated solution. Vignette controls the web-based asset ingestion, storage and delivery, while the elata senses software stores downloadable content metadata and controls the business rules and delivery. In addition, Vignette manages the online web-based content workflow through integrated content management and portal technology, while elata senses handles the workflow for downloadable content. This enables operators to deal with web-based content as well as rich media content objects such as games, music and video.

Matt Hooper, Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Alliances at elata said, “The management and delivery of the enormous volumes of mobile content now available and the associated operational issues is one of the biggest bottlenecks in the mobile content industry today. Key issues for mobile operators, their partners and suppliers are service quality, automation, security and reliability. Operators require a quality-assured, tailored, yet flexible solution for the delivery of mobile content to support the transition from 2.5 to 3G and offer subscribers an all-round enhanced experience.”

The elata / Vignette mobile content solution enables the necessary levels of control in managing and delivering compelling mobile web and downloadable content to subscribers’ devices. The solution creates a process-driven data management model that controls large volumes of content, within a secure and automated integration and ingestion framework.

Mark Rattley, Regional Vice President of Sales at Vignette EMEA said: “Mobile content management and delivery systems are converging – enabling operators to introduce and update available next-generation services. With elata senses software and the Vignette content management and portal suite, our solution gives operators the ability to efficiently create marketing propositions with clear differential and choice, which supports Digital Rights Management, pricing and billing requirements specifically for rich media mobile content.”

As one of the most resource and cost intensive requirements, integrating increasing volumes of content from different providers in line with different business models is both time consuming and a potential security risk area. The elata / Vignette solution offers a permission-based framework that provides a secure process for integrating content provider models and ingesting content based on allocated permissions through a lifecycle model with revenue assurance to network operators.
