: Horsham based Teleconnection Limited has launched a new wireless
Long Range WiFi package called ‘Roam-Money’. This offers
high quality voice communications on PDAs, wireless laptops, notebooks,
tablets and desktops. According to Teleconnection’s Managing
Director, Jim Povey, the voice quality is Hi Fi, and the technology
offers roaming users a much better alternative to GSM phones, because
they get, not only voice, but 99% of PC functionality.
The PDA ‘Roam-Money’
package is Bluetooth, WLAN, IP and PSTN compatible and combines Hewlett
Packard’s H 4150 and H 5550 IPAQ with Telesym’s VOIP technology
and delivery by a partner in this venture Telstra’s PSTN world-wide
network.
Users will also be able to access via existing WiFi networks which
will give 99% PC functionality. Teleconnection ambitiously plans service
expansion by offering broadband users incentives to upgrade their
broadband modems to a WLAN. Prospective broadband customers can obtain
a full broadband package which includes wireless access from Teleconnection.
Jim Povey said “Teleconnection Ltd. has developed this remarkable
product to enable mobile workers to have the functionality of their
Desktop PC whilst on the road”
He continued “
This product will offer a payback to any person, or organisation,
which have experienced the massive costs of making International Roaming
calls, using “Roam-Money” calls from , say, USA to Europe
will cost just 10p/min instead of £1.30 /min” Calls to
other group users are free and calls to UK PSTN numbers are charged
at just 1P/Min. Jim Povey continued “ With the advent of Long
Range WiFi users will benefit form a network reach of up to 31 miles.
So only 4 antennae’s would cover the whole of London”
This appears to be a serious competitor to, not only 3G networks,
but also existing Broadband landline providers.
Teleconnection also said that for less than £5,000,000 they
could cover 99% of the UK’s population and with bandwidths of
between 1 and 54 MB/sec.
