First 3G for MACs

UK : Vodafone UK announces the expansion of its successful 3G business service with the launch of a MAC compatible version. The dashboard now enables MAC users to benefit from the increased speeds available from the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS data card.

The Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS data card delivers fast remote access to company networks, the Internet, email and other popular office applications.

The service provides data speeds of up to 384 kbps - up to seven times faster than a standard fixed line dial-up connection - and enables users to work more productively and effectively when away from the office.

Bill Morrow, CEO Vodafone UK, said, "Users of Apple Macs have a rich variety of working habits that we believe are ideally suited to the 3G environment.

From business people through to designers and photographers - all of these professional communities have sub-groups, characterised by heavy and frequent mobile data use, that are devoted to the Mac."

Newsreader Darren Jordon has been using the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G Data card in his Apple 15" G4 Powerbook. He said " I am very impressed with this technology. There are two versions of the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS data card designed to address the needs of both business and corporate customers:

The Internet Access version of the data card offers public Internet services access to customers on the move and is available through all Vodafone stores nationwide as well as through dealers and ISPs.

The Remote Access version secures private connections to corporate networks for access to specific office applications when out of the office. This version, ideal for small companies through to large corporations, is available through Vodafone UK business sales channels.

Vodafone UK 3G coverage is available across 50% of the population within the month and throughout London and along the M4 corridor to Newbury, as well as major urban areas including Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Roaming on the 3G network is available in 250 cities across 10 countries: France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. Outside of 3G areas, the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS data card switches seamlessly to GPRS, which covers 99% of the UK population and is available in 53 countries worldwide.
