3G 1x EV-DO Phone Receives Design Award

LG won the highest honor, the Presidential Award, at the 2002 Good Design (GD) Awards organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion and sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of Korea. The Awards select Korean and foreign products currently on the market with leading design to award the GD mark, which has become the most prestigious symbol of design excellency in Korea.

At the GD Awards ceremony held at the Korea Design Center located in Bundang LGE received the highest honor of the Presidential Award with its handset above. More about this phone CLICK HERE

A total of 861 products competed at the 2002 GD Awards with top honors, the Presidential Award (LGE) and the Prime Minister Award, going to products from the IT sector in recognition of their cutting-edge design and technological strength, befitting the image of Korea as an IT powerhouse as it was presented with much success to the world during the World Cup.

LGE's cdma2000 handset "LG-KH5000" for IMT-2000 service won praises for its creative new design that broke the design norm of conventional folder handsets. With emphasis on user convenience, marketability, and innovation, the handset was chosen as the recipient of the Presidential Award in recognition of its contribution not only to enhancing the design level of handsets, but also furthering LGE's status as the design leader in Korea.

The cdma2000 1x EV-DO color handset is an example of LGE's innovation that broke
conventional thinking that the handset's LCD screen should be immobile. The LCD screen for the handset can rotate 270 degrees with a camcorder style design so that users can take photos while viewing the screen in any direction of his or her choice. This
eliminates the inconvenience and bulkiness of conventional handsets with a detachable
camera on the side of the phone thus making the phone more user-friendly than handsets with immobile fixed LCD screens.

This cdma2000 color handset for IMT-2000 service also allows users to photograph his or her own face or any place with a high quality CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide
Semiconductor) camera with 110,000 pixels. You can also send the photograph to other
handsets or email them.
