Flagship Roaming Client Platform with cdma2000 1xEV-DO Support Enhanced

US : PCTEL, Inc. announced today the release of its cdma2000 1xEV-DO Roaming Client. The product, which is sold primarily to public carriers and to access aggregators, enables Internet access over high-speed cellular systems. PCTEL’s Roaming Client detects the availability of Wi-Fi, 1xEV-DO, 1xRTT, UMTS, EDGE, GPRS, PHS and FOMA networks and simplifies a consumer’s or remote worker’s Internet access over any of these wireless systems. Sprint and Verizon Wireless have both announced plans to offer 1xEV-DO service nationwide. It is expected that access aggregators, such as GoRemote, FiberLink and iPass will offer access packages to enterprise customers that include aggregated 1xEV-DO minutes along with Wi-Fi and standard cellular (2.5G) access. These packages typically include client software.

The 1xEV-DO capability adds to our support of wireless and wired standards worldwide,” said Marty Singer, PCTEL’s Chairman and CEO. “The client capabilities, coupled with the ability of our Central Configuration Server to manage millions of devices using the Roaming Client, explains our success in securing ten contracts with public carriers and access aggregators worldwide,” added Singer.

PCTEL’s Roaming Client provides mobile users secure, seamless access and roaming capabilities across Wi-Fi and cellular data networks. The Roaming Client enables rapid scanning of available networks and a user-friendly connection process. The client has also been bundled with 802.11 chipsets and licensed to major carriers within and outside the U.S. PCTEL’s Roaming Client allows users to establish cdma2000 1xEV-DO data sessions using the AirPrime PC5220 PC card and the Sierra Wireless 580 card.
