: NEC announced the launch of the e101, a 2.5G/GPRS enabled camera
phone, which will be available on O2’s Pay&Go tariff.
Combining
a WAP 2.0 browser and MIDP 2.0 JAVATM engine, the e101 offers access
to the 02 Active suite of content and services. Customers have a simple
means of navigating an icon based menu to retrieve a wide range of
mobile data and multimedia services, including MMS messaging, colour
games, chat, music, sport, entertainment and information downloads.

The clamshell
style e101 is a compact, lightweight (85g) handset with an integrated
VGA 300K pixel camera and a 1.8 inch, 65K colour screen. The handset
showcases NEC’s ability to deliver stylish and user-friendly
handsets.
The internal
128x160 pixel display offers high picture resolution and a second
external LCD shows caller-ID, so no matter when your handset is set
to a discrete mode for meetings, you can always see who is trying
to reach you.
The e101
offers great image functionality and has the ability to take pictures
in four different formats - Full Colour (Normal), Monochrome (Black
and White), Sepia and Bluish, which can be shared with friends and
family via MMS (Multimedia Messaging Services).
The handset
enables users to download pictures from the Internet quickly and efficiently
and features JAVATM technology for the latest games and applications
– giving the user the option to play the preloaded games (Raida
and DeepWar) or download the latest game releases from O2 Active.
Triband
functionality makes the e101 the ideal companion for the frequent
traveller to the United States.
Other
features allowing for the personalisation of the e101 handset include
the capacity to store up to sixteen 40-channel polyphonic ringtunes.
Individual ringtunes and photographs can then be set to identify incoming
callers.
“As
mobile terminals continue to evolve, NEC is developing handsets that
deliver sophisticated and desirable features widening the NEC portfolio
of stylish handsets on offer. The e101 is very sleek and compact,
with no compromise on either functionality or style. It has been specifically
designed to address consumer demand for quick and easy Internet browsing
and will beautifully showcase the breadth of content available on
02 Active to its best. said Tony Hutson, Director, NEC UK.
The e101
will be available from mid-October through selected retail outlets
across the UK.
