: KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce the launch of
"talby," the third mobile phone in the 'au' design project.
The project gives free range to designers to create innovative and
radically new mobile phones. This third design, to be launched in
early December 2004 and gradually sold nationwide, is from product
designer Marc Newson and his corporation.
"talby"
boasts an ultra-flat, ultra-slim design achieved with an internal
antenna allowing users to slip the phone easily into pockets. The
phone comes with an original strap attaching to the phone through
a large strap hole so that the user can carry "talby" around
the neck as a fashion accessory.
The handsets
have a base color of silver, and are accented in "Hornet Green"
*1, "Orange Orange"*1, or "Hole Black" *1.
Nick
Wood, a close friend of Marc Newson whose music has become well known
through many commercials, produced the sound for "talby."
Unique EZ "Chaku-Uta(R)," such as "talby"'s theme
song "Free," as well as ring-tone melodies and sound effects
are pre-set.
Marc
Newson named "talby" after a humorous character in the sci-fi
movie "Dark Star" (directed by John Carpenter).
