New TTS Wireless Phone from Pantech

ASIA : Pantech developed a horizontal “Slab” type convergence mobile phone which is considered to be another revolutionary accomplishment beyond the clamshell or sliding types in mobile phone technology.

P1 is not a length-wise conventional bar-type phone. Rather, it is a level slab in shape looking like a digital camera with an antenna at the corner. Naturally, it is more convenient to carry around and to take pictures. Furthermore, the bigger screen(1.9”) gives a more stable look than that of a conventional bar type. P1 is only 15.8mm-thick, which makes it one of the leanest mobile phones in Korea. Since P1 is not foldable like many camera phones, a “keylock” function protects you from accidental pushes or any exterior pressure on keypads. The unique design of P1 earned itself a recognition as a product of “GD(Good Design)” by Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.

Besides its attractive appearance, P1 has Korea’s first “TTS(Test to Speech)” function. This function allows a conversion of text messages into voice. This would be efficiently used for the elderly, the children, the vision-impaired, the businessmen all who find voice a more convenient means to communicate. Other than text messages, alarming sound, saved schedules and words in electronic dictionary can be informed in voice.

What is TTS?
An software application allows to convert from a text message to a voice message. For multimedia appliances, it gives various text information in form of hearing messages. The application is widely used in voice e-mail, voice prompt, and voice recognition machines.

Besides the TTS function, 2Mpix CCD camera is embedded with auto focus, built-in flash, 12 level digital zoom with 9 continuous shots. The rear look of P1 resembles a digital camera. By putting MSM 6100 chip inside, P1 provides an Electronic Dictionary with 28,000 words including definitions, examples and pronunciations. The MSM6100 chip is to strengthen the speed of graphics or data presentation.
