VIPnet Submit Offer for 3G UMTS License

Europe : VIPnet submitted the offer for the UMTS license - implementation of UMTS presents the upgrade of the existing 3G network - development of new products and services

Based on the international public tender dated July 15, 2004, VIPnet submitted the offer for the UMTS license following the set terms and conditions. This way VIPnet expressed the desire and readiness to offer all the advantages of the third generation of mobile telephony to its customers.

VIPnet had already demonstrated readiness for the implementation of UMTS technology in May 2003 by establishing the UMTS connection with the four largest Croatian cities, and is one of the first European operators which realized an international UMTS call. UMTS license will enable VIPnet to bring this technology to its customers. With the implementation of EDGE, in April 2004, VIPnet offered its customers the third generation services, and UMTS is the logical continuance of its investments in 3G, which will ensure gradual development and implementation of innovative products and services. UMTS will enable data transfer speed of 384 kbps in the first phase of implementation, and soon after, the speed above 2 Mbps.

VIPnet will soon offer its customers UMTS services, and thus become one of the first operaters in the world which offers its customers two 3G technologies: EDGE and UMTS. Moreover, the implementation of UMTS will stimulate new, long term investments in the Croatian telecommunications sector.

VIPnet intends to become the leading provider of advanced 3G products and services which will provide its customers with the highest quality solutions in the field of multimedia communications.
