Lucent Lands 3G Network Order
24th October 2002

Lucent Technologies announced that it has signed a contract with Tata Teleservices to deploy high-speed 3G CDMA2000(TM) wireless networks in several Indian states. This agreement underscores Lucent's ability to rapidly deploy 3G CDMA2000 networks and equipment worldwide and further reinforces the company's leadership in spread-spectrum 3G technology.

Under the contract, Lucent will supply Tata Teleservices with Lucent Flexent(TM) base stations -- which support 3G CDMA2000.1X service -- as well as mobile switching centers. In addition to providing high-quality voice service, the CDMA2000 network will enable Tata Teleservices to offer their subscribers high-speed mobile access to data services such as wireless email -- including large attachments -- streaming audio and video and corporate intranets.

"We're pleased to be able to help Tata Teleservices meet their voice service needs, while also preparing them to introduce high-speed data capabilities to businesses -- a market where we see great potential," said Jim Brewington, president of Mobility Solutions, Lucent Technolgies.

Lucent is the global leader in spread spectrum CDMA technology, having deployed more than 70,000 CDMA base stations in commercial networks worldwide.
