Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is coming to Europe

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active hasn’t exactly had the speediest of global roll outs. It first launched in May, but back then it was only available in the U.S. and exclusive to AT&T. Since then other U.S. networks have got hold of it and it’s even arrived in Canada, but for some reason never made it out of North America.

It looks like that’s about to change though, as SamMobile has received some images reportedly showing a European version of the device along with some new information.

Let’s get the important bits out of the way first- the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active will apparently cost €629 (roughly £494) when it launches in Europe, which sounds about right for a high end handset. Unfortunately no exact launch date has been confirmed, but SamMobile expects its release will be ‘imminent’.

Moving on to the pictures, you’ll see that it looks almost exactly the same as the U.S. version and indeed it is, the only differences are that the European version doesn’t have any network branding and nor does it say ‘Galaxy S5 Active’ on the back. It also has a different model number (SM-G870F).

Other than that it’s expected to be identical to the U.S. model, which means you can look forward to a 5.1 inch 1080 x 1920 Super AMOLED display, a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 16 megapixel camera, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a 2800 mAh battery and a heart rate monitor.

Very similar specs to the Samsung Galaxy S5 in other words, but unlike that phone it doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner. It’s also more durable as not only is it IP67 certified dust and water resistant (which the Galaxy S5 is too), but it’s also in compliance with the MIL-STD 810G standard for ruggedness, so it’s better equipped to survive scrapes and falls.

The Galaxy S5 Active will be launching in Titanium Grey and Camo Green when it arrives in Europe, with the latter colour being particularly eye catching, unless you’re in a forest, in which case it should blend right in.
