Sony’s Xperia Z1 Proves A Hit As Sony’s Smartphone Sales Soar by 30%

Sony’s smartphone sales have soared by just under 30% in the third quarter of 2013 when compared to the same quarter in 2012. Sales of smartphones were 9.6 million and 7.4 million respectively. Sony also reported a profit of over $60 million within its mobile division.

The company did not reveal the models of smartphones that they sold but its pretty obvious to us here at 3G by looking at the amount of online and newspaper ads the company have been running and by the outcomes of our own Sony Xperia Z1 Review and Sony Xperia Z Ultra Review that the bulk of sales come from these two smartphones.

Other indicators why the Sony Xperia Z1 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra are selling so well is that they are performing well against the opposition.

This can be seen in our Apple iPhone 5S vs Sony Xperia Z1 comparison article which concluded “The better of the two seems to be the Sony Xperia Z1, which has a slightly superior build quality, a better camera, a higher resolution screen, much longer battery life and the addition of NFC support.”

In our Sony Xperia Z Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comparison article we concluded “The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is clearly a superior handset to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It has a far higher build quality - as well as being waterproof and dustproof. It also has a faster processor and a much higher resolution screen”.

Here at 3G we can only see these figures continuing upwards with more great smartphones on the way. The next is the Sony Xperia Z1 Mini which will be announced in Shanghai on 12th November.
