Mobile Choice Awards 2012 Winners Announced

Mobile Choice have unveiled the winners of their Mobile Awards 2012 which were decided with the help of 26,000 of their readers.

The biggest winners of 2012 were undeniably Samsung with the Galaxy SIII winning the big one "Phone Of The Year " . We expected the smartphone to win the award and it really does deserve the victory achieving 44 per cent of readers votes . The runner up was Apple's iPhone 4S , which is fair enough.

Samsung's Galaxy Note also won "Most Innovative Device" which we can't really argue with because it was the first smartphone/tablet hybrid launched by a major manufacturer. The Note has also had an influence on the smartphone industry as a whole facilitating the move to larger touch-screens. Nokia's Pureview 808 came in a close second thanks to its amazing 41 mega-pixel camera.

Samsung also went on to scoop "Manufacturer of the Year" with the Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy Tab range and the Galaxy S Advance all coming in for praise. Sony took second place thanks to its new Xperia range and the fact they re-branded smoothly from Sony-Ericsson to just Sony.

Nokia's Pureview 808 rightly took the "Best Camera Phone" award in what was one probably one of easiest decisions to make. The 41 mega-pixel camera really set a whole new standard and is still hasn't been surpassed. With the Samsung Galaxy SIII claiming the runner-up spot.

Nokia also won "Best Smartphone Design" thanks to its Nokia Lumia 800 which has a unibody design ,edge-to-edge display and ergonomic form-factor. Sony Ericsson's Xperia U came in second place, but really it could have gone to any of Sony's Xperia smartphones because they all adopt a similar design.

Other Noticable Smartphone Awards Included:

  • Best Video Phone  Winner HTC One X ; Runner Up  Samsung Galaxy SIII
  • Best Value Phone Winner Sony Xperia U ; Runner Up Huawei  Ascend G300
  • Best Social Networking Handset Winner HTC One X; Runner Up  Nokia Lumia 800
  • Best Media Smartphone Winner Samsung Galaxy SIII; Runner Up HTC One X

New iPad

The other major award was "Tablet Of The Year" which was won by Apple's New iPad (pictured above) and this is the one award we really disagree with at 3G. The runner up, the Google Nexus 7, should have been the winner in our eyes due to the amazing value it offers.

Incredibly, this is the only award Apple have won which is a big change from the last couple of years when Apple were dead certs for a whole host of awards. This highlights just how powerful Samsung has become in the last year, but this is a battle thats far from over.

The last major award "Best Network" was given to Vodafone due it offering the best customer expierence out of any of the UK's operators. While second place was awarded to O2 for similar  reasons.

The remaining awards were as follows :

  • Best High-Street Network Retailer Winner Three ; Runner Up Carphone Warehouse
  • Best Customer Care Winner O2 ; Runner Up Tesco Mobile
  • Best Network Winner Vodafone ; Runner Up  O2
  • Best Online Retailer Winner BuyMobilePhones.net ; Runner Up MobilePhonesDirect.co.uk
  • Best Bluetooth Headset Winner Jabra Sport ; Runner Up Jaybird Freedom Headphones
