Blackberry Playbook Gets Playbook OS 2.1

Blackberry have released a new version of Playbook OS for Blackberry Playbook tablet which is available to download over-the-air right now.

Blackberry Playbook OS 2.1 brings a number of improvements to RIM's tablet and we highly recommend that owners of the tablet grab it right away. However , the bad news is that the update is only available for the WiFi-only version of Blackberry's tablet.

Those with the WiFi only version enables owners of the Playbook to send text-messages. This feature works by connecting your Blackberry smartphone to the tablet using Blackberry Bridge, which is rather pointless in 3G's mind because you may just as well use your smartphone.

Data security has been improved in the update because you can now encrypt all data stored on the tablet, which will keep your data safe if your tablet was ever stolen or lost. Printing from the Playbook to the PC has now been made possible thanks to Blackberry's Print To Go app.

Portrait view modes have also been added for email, calendar and contacts and is probably the most significant improvement present in Playbook OS 2.1. Additionally, even more Android applications are now supported !

Owners of the Blackberry Playbook (WiFi edition) should be able to download the update over-the-air right now. As always 3G recommends you backup your data and settings before installing the new version.
