Motorola ET1 - The First Rugged Android Tablet

Motorola have a history of rugged devices in the smartphone market with the likes of the Defy and they've now moved into the tablet market. They've announced the Motorola ET1, which is the world's first rugged Android tablet.

The Motorola ET1 comes with Gorilla Glass meaning it is scratch-resistant and shatter-resistant. Furthermore, the ET1's 9.7 inch screen is 30 per cent thicker than average tablet display and is recessed into the case so it can survive being dropped.

The rest of the specification is remotely average and includes a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of onboard memory and it will run on Android 2.3. However, the price is anything but average as its expected to cost around $1000 (£640) which makes it more expensive than the iPad 2.

However, Motorola are aiming to sell the ET1 to businesses claiming that it'll last 3 or 5 years and work out cheaper than having to keep replacing other tablets, which will get broken much quicker and more frequently.

The Motorola ET1 will launch in the US in December , but we're not currently sure whether it will be coming to the UK.
