application processor and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) WinCE 5.0 operating
system, has already been successfully demonstrated in field trials
and has been demonstrated at the Microsoft booth in SMAU Milan, Italy.
Calypso' ASNAP(TM)
patented technology for which it was granted U.S. Patent #6,680,923
titled "Communication system and method" (http://www.uspto.gov
search U.S. patent number 6,680,923), which covers the seamless roaming
of voice, video and data between Wide Area Network access points,
such as cellular towers (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA, WCMDA etc.) and short-range
Internet access points (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.) is the solution
to deliver seamless connectivity to mobile phones, PDA and mobile
devices.
"We're very
happy to have Sleipner SA at our Microsoft Mobile Communication booth
at SMAU 2005 in Milan, Italy, demonstrating the Sleipner Calypso CoMob
ASNAP(TM) seamless mobility software for Mobile Phones and PDA software
running on the Calypso C1250i WiFi-GPRS-GSM VoIP mobile phones,"
declared Fabio Falzea, Mobility Business Group Director for Microsoft
Italy.
"We believe
in the strong opportunities that WiFi broadband high speed connection
will provide to mobile subscribers with many new services such as
mobile real time video conferencing, document sharing and synchronization
and other value added services. Convergence between cellular and WiFi
coverage will represent a very interesting growth opportunity for
the whole mobility business in the following years," further
adds Falzea.
"CoMob is
the first seamless mobility solution allowing mobile users to manage
a cellular call (GSM/UMTS) and VoIP/WiFi calls with one single interface.
CoMob products turn a Windows Mobile dual-mode Smart phone (with a
WiFi and GSM/UMTS connection) into a telephone capable of receiving
and making VoIP calls in the WiFi network-covered areas. In an office
or in a house it behaves like a cordless telephone (an extension or
a private telephone number) and it can an office or handle GSM calls
in areas where a wireless WiFi connection is not available. When both
connections are available, CoMob allows managing the two types of
calls with hold and unhold functions," says Bruno Motta, Vice
President of Marketing of Sleipner SA.
CoMob PDA features
a point and click interface and is fully integrated with Pocket Outlook
contacts while the phone version uses the Smart phone keyboard.
"The integration
of CoMob products with Calypso's ASNAP(TM) patented technology will
upgrade the coMob solutions to seamless switching, enabling a new
paradigm in mobile communication and seamless switching: real seamless
handling of communication," further adds Bruno Motta.
CoMob's parameter
configuration takes place through an integrated web server which can
also manage the complete dial plan and the call priorities and giving
the users web based SMS messages remote control on the phone. coMob
has been fully developed by Sleipner and is SIP protocol compliant
(RFC 3261). It is based on proprietary middleware.
"We are delighted
to demonstrate the Sleipner CoMob & Calypso's ASNAP(TM) seamless
mobility software for Mobile Phones and PDA software running on the
Calypso C1250i dual mode WiFi-GPRS-GSM VoIP mobile phones at the Microsoft
new technology area for Mobile Communications. We are very excited
about forging ahead with selling our products in Europe and the United
States," says Mr. Michael Pizzi, Calypso Executive Vice President
& General Counsel.
