Fixed Network Substitute for Fast Internet Surfing with 3G UMTS

25th October , 2005

US : One single product offering low-cost phone calls and Internet surfing, an answerphone function and cable-free printing! The Vodafone Talk and Web Box now offers a fully-comprehensive alternative to fixed network connections. In combination with the inexpensive At Home tariffs, the new hardware is the ideal combined voice and data solution for private individuals, teleworkers, small enterprises or freelancers.

What customers want most of all is a home fixed network connection that offers them flexibility, is easy to use and associated with inexpensive tariffs. Vodafone's answer is the Vodafone At Home Talk and Web Box with attractive tariffs for telephony and Internet usage in the At Home Zone. The practical, simple to install plug-and-play solution is yet another step in the direction of fixed network substitution. Vodafone will remain committed to promoting it and to extending the range of services in the future.

Existing fixed network devices - analogue telephone, PC and notebook (also via WLAN), answerphone and/or printer - can be connected to the Vodafone At Home Talk and Web Box. This product's most convincing attribute is that it is not associated with the time and cost-consuming process of installing and registering a conventional fixed network connection. The Talk and Web Box doesn't have to be installed at a specific place in the home. It is simply positioned at the most convenient location for the customer. Simply plug the box into the mains and connect up the terminal devices.

The Talk and Web Box enables customers to make phone calls and surf the Internet at the same time. If network coverage is available, the connection is established via UMTS to provide data transfer rates that are up to 6 times faster than ISDN. Vodafone already offers UMTS network coverage in more than 1200 German towns and cities.

"The Vodafone At Home product family is all about communicating via the mobile network instead of the fixed network. The At Home Talk and Web Box is a product that makes it easy and inexpensive to dispense entirely with the fixed network connection at home or in the office, and it also enables high-speed Internet surfing," explained Friedrich Joussen, CEO of Vodafone Germany.

A first-rate combination: Talk and Web Box and tariff option with an attractive monthly all-inclusive price
Vodafone is offering the Talk and Web Box in conjunction with an inexpensive At Home tariff plus free data volume. For example, Vodafone customers with the Vodafone Per-Minute Package who opt for the Talk and Web Box only pay EUR 49.95 per month to use it. This price includes 1,000 minutes of free talktime for calls to the fixed network and an online volume of 60 hours or 5,000 MB. Customers and callers can make telephone calls in the usual way because the offer includes a fixed network number with local prefix. In fact, they can now also use the Talk and Web box with their existing fixed network number. Vodafone automatically takes care of terminating the fixed network contract with the former provider.

The Talk and Web Box is available at a one-off purchase price of EUR 99.90* from the Vodafone shops and selected retail partners.
