: QUALCOMM Incorporated announced the on-time sampling of the Mobile
Station Modem MSM6280 solution supporting HSDPA technology, an evolution
of the WCDMA (UMTS) standard 3GPP Release 5.0. The MSM6280 chipset
is the second complete HSDPA solution from the Company and supports
data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps to enable the deployment of advanced
data and multimedia services among wireless subscribers worldwide.
The MSM6280 solution integrates advanced receiver technologies such
as Receive Diversity and Equalizer for increased data throughput and
network capacity.
"QUALCOMM continues
to be a leader in HSDPA technology, providing ongoing support for
the commercialization of HSDPA networks, products and services worldwide,"
said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "The
sampling of the MSM6280 chipset enables us to offer our partners the
ability to meet the growing demand for full-featured data services
and compelling multimedia capabilities on wireless devices."
The MSM6280 chipset is
pin-, RF- and software API-compatible with QUALCOMM's first HSDPA
solution, the MSM6275(TM) chipset, allowing handset manufacturers
to leverage existing hardware and software platforms for faster time
to market and reduced development costs. Additionally, the MSM6280
interfaces with the Company's RF CMOS single-chip transceiver and
multi-band receiver devices, enabling more integrated and cost-effective
solutions.
The MSM6280 single-chip
baseband supports WCDMA (UMTS)/HSDPA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (EGPRS) standards
and integrates a wide range of multimedia features, including advanced
video, audio, imaging and 3D graphics capabilities.
QUALCOMM's MSM6280 chipset
solution supports the Launchpad(TM) suite of advanced multimedia,
connectivity, position location, user interface and removable storage
functionality, as well as QUALCOMM's BREW(R) solution. The BREW solution
enables the development and monetization of advanced applications
and content, allowing operators and OEMs to differentiate their products
and services and increase revenues. The MSM6280 chipset is also compatible
with the Java(TM) runtime environment; J2ME(TM) can be built entirely
on the chipset as an extension to the BREW client.
