TV Comes To Vodafone Wireless Phones

ASIA : Vodafone K.K. announced it will offer the V601N by NEC, Japan’s first handset with an embedded analog TV tuner, after early December.

The V601N’s most notable feature is its ability to capture still pictures and animation from TV broadcasts as well as access websites related to TV programming with the touch of a button.

The main features of the V601N are as follows:

- Japan’s first*1 handset with a built-in analog TV tuner*2
- Easy web access to pre-registered TV programming related sites while viewing TV
- A capture function*3 to save TV images to memory as still pictures or animations
- Up to 30 seconds*4 of video recording by connecting to external devices such as video cameras
and video decks
- MPEG-4*5 video recording support, making it possible to send Movie Sha-mail video messages of
up to 10 seconds in length

*1: As of October 14, 2003, the V601N is Japan’s first mobile handset to come with an embedded TV tuner.
*2: In some instances the V601N cannot receive visuals or audio according to TV broadcast reception levels. The V601N
cannot be used outside Japan due to differing broadcast frequencies.
*3: TV broadcasts cannot be recorded.
*4: The V601N comes with a Copy Card. Portions of visual software and broadcast programs that are encoded with signals to
prevent reproduction for copyright reasons cannot be captured or recorded.
*5: MPEG-4: Abbreviation for “Moving Picture Experts Group Phase4”, a video compression format that can be used for video
content delivery over a narrow bandwidth.
