3G Mobile Data Services for KDDI

7th October 2003

Europe : SEVEN, a leader in Out of the Office(TM) mobile technologies, announced today that KDDI, the second largest mobile operator in Japan based in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo (CEO: Tadashi Onodera), will offer Keitai Office, a real-time remote access service for business users. Based on System SEVEN(TM) technology, Keitai Office provides secure access to work and personal email via any mobile device. KDDI services the biggest mobile data communications market, with over 10 million 3G subscribers and 17 million mobile subscribers. System SEVEN was delivered to KDDI through NEC.

"KDDI has enjoyed tremendous success in the consumer data services market, and with our fast growing subscriber base we are looking to replicate that success in the business market," said Yasuhiko Ito, Senior Vice President of KDDI. "The Keitai Office service enables KDDI to quickly expand our presence into the business market and satisfy our individual and corporate customers' needs with affordable, easy-to-use, real-time and secure access to business and personal email. We believe that the Keitai Office service has the potential to fundamentally change the way people communicate; flexibility and freedom for workers, and enhanced productivity for businesses."

"SEVEN offers a secure service that is well-suited for mobile operators entering enterprise solution market," said Hiroshi Nakagawa of NEC. "SEVEN's market-leading technology, KDDI's highly value-added mobile devices, and NEC's experience in IT industry make a great combination." Named 2003 Network Magazine Mobile Service of the Year, SEVEN's real-time mobile email services have been internationalized and localized for operators worldwide, and deployed in leading wireless data regions including Japan, Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. System SEVEN is delivered to Japanese mobile operators through NEC.

Keitai Office provides secure access to work and personal email, PIM information and documents via any KDDI mobile device. The service is available as a self-provisioned service for individuals, or as a managed service deployed by businesses for their entire organization. Keitai Office service eliminates the need for subscribers to forward their work email to an unsecured personal email account. Using System SEVEN's proven, industry-leading security and encryption technologies, with Keitai Office corporate data is secure at all times, and is never replicated to servers beyond the corporate firewall.

"SEVEN is honored to be working with KDDI and NEC to serve the most advanced data market in the world. KDDI's subscribers are among the most sophisticated and prolific mobile data users," said Bill Nguyen, CEO of SEVEN. "SEVEN is 100% focused on creating an open ecosystem in which the world's leading operators, system integrators and application developers can bring to market communication services that enhance people's lives. KDDI and NEC are wonderful partners in that pursuit."

SEVEN and NEC jointly developed mobile email applications that support BREW, an application offered by KDDI. As part of NEC's efforts to strengthen their operations worldwide, SEVEN and NEC will continue to work together to jointly market SEVEN's mobile email services, and will be introducing additional strategic projects in the future.
