: Genuine mobile internet services today became reality for Telstra
mobile customers with the launch of "i-mode (R)", built
on NEC's mobile internet platform and handsets.
Today, NEC released
the first of a series of handsets to be manufactured for Telstra along
with the platform construction of the i-mode service.

i-mode, an integrated

experienced in Australia.

handsets, provide the key that unlocks i-mode in Australia and change
how Australians use their phones.

NEC's involvement
with i-mode dates back to March 1999 when NTT DoCoMo developed the
world's first mobile internet service in Japan.
i-mode's resounding
success, operator driven business model, high speed user access, integrated
mobile suite of solutions and unrestricted access to global content
are some of the key reasons behind Telstra's decision to introduce
the service using NEC's mobile internet technology and handsets.
NEC in conjunction
with Telstra have taken to deploy the service and a chance for Australia's
leading carrier to gain a significant march on its competition and
broaden the gap on mobile services delivery.
With the introduction
of i-mode, Australians will enjoy email, rich content, picture messaging
and video solutions. i-mode handsets will also have directory, location
and banking services, news, games and ring tones.
Currently, NEC's
mobile internet platform supports more than 45 million i-mode users
-worldwide and is operated by COSMOTE in Greece, Wind in Italy, Telefonica
Moviles Espana, Bouygues Telecom in France and Taiwan's Far EasTone
Telecommunications.

The N410i is a
compact striking full-scale 1.3M Pixel integrated camera that takes
rich pictures.
Featuring a 5.5cm
65K color QVGA LCD display it not only takes high-resolution pictures
it also takes MPEG4 movies. Developed based on expertise gained from
the Mobile Internet markets in Japan and Europe, the N410i is suitable
for accessing mobile Internet applications and rich content, comprising
64 polyphonic ring tones, DoJa(TM) JAVA Applications and USB &
IrDA Connectivity.
NEC also
provides the N342i, which targets a broader range of people. Equipped
with a 300K pixels, digital camera and various camera functions, 4.5
cm large color screen with 65K colors, 40 polyphonic ring tones and
JAVA its design is simple, stylish and friendly.
