T-Mobile Austria 3G Datacard

8th November , 2004

Europe : Mobile Internet now provides T-Mobile customers with a mobile broadband connection that will give them high speed Internet access wherever they are.

The complete package consists of the UMTS / GPRS / WLAN Multimedia Net Card, the Communication Center Software and the Mobile Internet offer, which enables mobile Internet use from just EUR 35 per month. The GPRS / UMTS / WLAN Multimedia Net Card, a network card for laptops, provides high speed access to the Internet via all T-Mobile’s multi-media networks. The Communication Center software automatically establishes a connection to the fastest available network.

"With Mobile Internet we are now offering our customers a complete package that enables high-speed fixed and stationary Internet use", commented Dr. Georg Pölzl, CEO of T-Mobile Austria. "T-Mobile Austria is hence conquering the UMTS market through mobile Internet access. In combination with the extremely attractive Mobile Internet package and a completely new security deposit model for data cards, we are taking a decisive step towards establishing a mass market."

T-Mobile customers who opt for a complete package only pay a security deposit of EUR 50, which is returned to them when they hand over the device in proper working condition. This means that the necessary infrastructure for connecting to the Internet is free of charge, just like a modem for fixed Internet access. Customers are only charged for how much they use it.

The monthly basic charge includes 676 MB of usage. T-Mobile Austria first charges for each additional MB once this amount has been exceeded by more than 15 %. Die Customers can see exactly how many MBs they have used at any given time via the T-Mobile Communication Center.

In accordance with the planned UMTS rollout, usage is being concentrated on big cities and urban conurbations, such as Linz, Graz, Innsbruck, Eisenstadt, Klagenfurt or St. Pölten. The expansion of the UMTS networks is already well advanced in the catchment areas of these conurbations.
