DiGi EDGE Expansion in Malaysia

5th November , 2004

ASIA : Ericsson has been selected by DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi) as prime supplier for upgrading and expanding their nationwide GSM/GPRS network with EDGE. The upgrade to EDGE will enable DiGi to
offer advanced data services to consumers.

Ericsson will supply EDGE enabled equipment as well as modernization of DiGi's core and radio network. Ericsson will also provide a comprehensive portfolio of telecom services in a turnkey deployment including network design, implementation, multi-vendor integration and tuning services.

"DiGi is well-positioned to become the preferred mobile data operator in the country," said Mr. Jon Eddy, Chief Technology Officer, DiGi. "Since work began on the network upgrade to EDGE, DiGi customers in the Klang Valley have experienced significant improved network quality, higher reliability and high speed access to next-generation products and services."

"We are continuing with partners who are well versed with our requirements, which are key in enabling DiGi to always exceed market expectations in everything we do. We received good support from Ericsson during our previous EDGE rollout and are confident that they will enhance this further with our nationwide rollout," Mr. Eddy concluded.

The solution is designed to support DiGi's immediate needs for improved network services, while at the same time providing the necessary infrastructure for broader, integrated EDGE services.

"Today, we are proud to play a key role in taking DiGi's high-speed network nationwide, bringing the convenience and richness of a total multimedia communications experience and lifestyle to more Malaysians," said Kristian Tear, President of Ericsson South East Asia and Country Manager of Ericsson Malaysia. "Ericsson is a partner to 25 out of 35 operators who have launched EDGE, enabling and
powering their networks to provide new and innovative services to consumers. Ericsson and DiGi have built up a strong strategic relationship with the launch of DiGi's digital mobile network in 1995.

The new agreement is an important milestone in the evolution of DiGi's network and in the partnership."

Ericsson was previously involved in the upgrade of DiGi's EDGE network in Shah Alam and Klang (in the Klang Valley), as well as the northern and southern regions of the country.
