3G WCDMA Recognized Revenues Surge 4x in 3Q02

18th November 2002

According to Dell'Oro Group, revenues of WCDMA or UMTS infrastructure equipment surged over four-fold to nearly $800 million in 3Q02. 3Q02 marked the first quarter when material revenues were recognized from the WCDMA deployments that have been occurring in Europe for the past couple years.

"During the quarter, both Ericsson and Nokia had a large portion of their mobile infrastructure revenues generated from WCDMA systems and we expect that several other vendors will begin to recognize revenues over the next few quarters. In 3Q02, strength in WCDMA helped to offset the decline in GSM/GPRS/EDGE infrastructure equipment which fell 22% compared to 2Q02," said Greg Collins, director at Dell'Oro Group.
