A new piece of detective work from HMC Investment Securities indicates that Samsung is planning to reduce its number of mobile phones with the Windows Mobile operating system and increase its number of mobile phones with the Android open source platform.
Samsung unveiled its first Android mobile phone back in April 2009 which was the Samsung I7500 ( Galaxy ). More details on the Samsung i7500 here.
Android is a very popular open source operating system for 3G mobile phones and net-books. The latest version released in October, 2009 is Android 1.6. and Software Development Kit (SDK) is available to developers.
Looking at the investment article from HMC Investment Securities and the chart from the article you can see that HMC suggest that Windows Mobile will fall from over eighty percent inclusion in Samsung mobile phones to around 20 percent by 2012. Looking at Android’s share this will increase to about thirty five percent by end of 2010.
This may not be a just Samsung thing either. Looking at research recent details from Gartner, Windows Mobile lost just under 30% of its 3G smart phone market share in quarter three sales this year.
The main swaying factor in the market share the operating system makers are battling for is likely to be the new Samsung Mobile Platform bada which news broke about only last week.
