Europe / ASIA : Digital Airways announced that its Kaleido mobile user interface solution has been selected by NXP for its Nexperia cellular system solution 5210 family for 2.5G/2.75G feature phones.

NXP’s Nexperia cellular system solutions 5210 series is an ARM9-based GSM/GPRS/EDGE platform which supports a wide range of multimedia and connectivity applications such as Bluetooth, USB High Speed or FM Radio. Combining everything necessary for a finished design, including extensive validation and interoperability testing, NXP's solutions now enable handset manufacturers to deliver a customized handset to market in as little as three months.

At the heart of the Nexperia 5210 series’ unique customization flexibility is Digital Airways’ Kaleido user interface solution. “The integration of Kaleido in NXP's Nexperia 5210 series provides an advantageous opportunity for customers looking to offer completely customized multimedia feature phones with fast time to market,” said Philippe Silberzahn, Digital Airways’ CEO. “This is the product the mobile industry has been waiting for.”

The pre-integrated Kaleido solution includes a complete application layer comprising more than 30 key applications such as phone book, main menu, PIM, SMS, MMS, IM, photo album, camera, video and multimedia player.

“With more than 250 million Nexperia Cellular System Solutions shipped, NXP has proven success in providing complete reference designs. NXP’s family of EDGE platforms were designed to address a growing customer need for comprehensive reference designs that drastically speed time to market, while enabling industry-leading feature sets, maximum customization flexibility and limited validation effort,” said Renzo Pellandini, Product Marketing Director, Business Unit Mobile and Personal, NXP Semiconductors. “Digital Airways’ powerful Kaleido user interface solution allows our customers to focus on product differentiation rather than validation.”

Availability
More than 70 million NXP Nexperia cellular system solutions for EDGE have already been shipped to market. The Nexperia cellular system solution 5210 series platforms integrated with the Kaleido user interface solution are expected to be in mass production in December 2007.
