Europe / Japan : CETECOM and TELEC announced a new cooperation agreement in the field of GSM/GPRS regulatory testing with the aim to provide local testing capabilities to the Japanese mobile and the wireless communications industry.

This new GSM/GPRS test facility, located at the TELEC building, would be the only of its kind in Japan managed by an independent third party. Manufacturers of mobile phones, wireless enabled notebooks, PDA’s, etc. will be able to verify radio regulatory requirements related to CE Marking and FCC Approval in Japan. Both parties agree that conformance testing for 2G/2.5G devices will soon also be available in Japan.

In the context of conformance testing, CETECOM and TELEC continue their successful cooperation in the field of W-CDMA. This cooperation started two years ago and it has been very beneficial for Japanese manufacturers bringing their devices on the global market.

"This is an excellent example of cooperation and understanding between two leading companies, CETECOM and TELEC, with a clear common goal: the benefit of each individual customer and the Japanese mobile and wireless industry. CETECOM is very glad to contribute to the development of this market, the most advanced in the world. We are totally committed and we are seeing very good results already.

Especially, since international roaming is becoming the trend in Japan, TELEC and CETECOM wanted to add their contribution by implementing GSM local testing capabilities. Our hope is that Japanese manufacturers become even more global and competitive." said Dr. Harald Ansorge, Managing Director of CETECOM GmbH.

Mr. Ryoichi Miyauchi, Executive Director of TELEC, explained: "By offering GSM/GPRS regulatory testing in Japan, with the support of CETECOM, TELEC aims to satisfy the need of the Japanese industry and confirms TELEC's strategy to continue among the most advanced testing organisations in the world. We continue to focus on providing tools to Japanese companies to succeed globally, now in 2G and 2.5G. Our cooperation with CETECOM is excellent at all levels and we are enjoying a win to win situation especially when it comes to serve our customers in the best way."

All CETECOM testing laboratories, and also TELEC's, are equipped with state-of-the-art test instruments. Selection of applicable test cases, project management and test report generation is executed by CETECOM’s proprietary internet-based testing tool, TOM (Testing and Organization Management database). TOM allows maximum quality and efficiency when handling projects among different testing locations.

The start of the GSM/GPRS radio regulatory testing services in Japan is scheduled for March 2008. Services not available yet in Japan are performed at CETECOM laboratories with local support in Japan.
