Canada / South Africa : AliceStreet Inc. is pleased to announce successful testing and deployment over 3G HSPDA networks in South Africa.

South African mobile phone companies are global leaders in cellular technology and recently rolled out 3G HSDPA infrastructure to its user base. HSDPA provides data speeds of up to 1.8 Mbs download and 384 Kbs upload. AliceStreet needs 250Kbs download, and 150Kbs upload to meet "face to face" with up to 16 people.

We chose South Africa as the testing ground as they are one of the first countries in the world to roll out 3G HSDPA."

Testing, completed over the last six months, included South African users, in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Cape Town. Using data cards from both South African 3G HSDPA service providers, the participants met "face to face" within South Africa, and all over the world including Brazil, Canada and the UK.

AliceStreet’s deployment options include LAN’s, WAN’s, Satellite, WiFi, WiMax and, now, 3G HSDPA The cost of using the 3G HSDPA infrastructure is extremely affordable running around R1.70 (USD 0.25 cents) or less per minute for a user participating in an AliceStreet videoconference with 15 other people."
