Jacket Pocket-sized 3G UMTS Office from Vodafone

Europe Germany: Vodafone has extended its VPA product family to include a UMTS-capable model. Thanks to high-speed data transfer - UMTS is now available in over 1200 German towns and cities - and a novel operating concept, users of the new VPA can look forward to even more efficient mobile working.

This versatile communication product is now available to contract customers from the Vodafone Online Shop at a price of EUR 499.90* in conjunction with the UMTS Per-Minute Package Plus 100. Without a contract, the VPA costs EUR 899.50 and will be available in the Vodafone Online Shop.

The new VPA IV has a QWERTZ keyboard for convenient text entry. The display opens up behind the keyboard, like a notebook, for writing or Web browsing. The VPA IV has a 520 megahertz Intel processor and runs on the new Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition operating system. All the essential office programs - Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile, PDF Viewer and Data Explorer are pre-installed. The internal 64-megabyte memory can be expanded to over 1 GB with SD-IO/MMC memory cards. It incorporates Bluetooth, infrared and mini USB interfaces for communication with other devices.

The VPA IV's user-friendly clamshell design with swivel action enables it to assume the form of a 'conventional' PDA. As a result, users can make calls and work as if they were using a Smartphone. The large display, loudspeakers and microphone are located on the front of the device, the keyboard is concealed and entries are made on the touchscreen using an electronic pen.

When closed, the VPA IV's dimensions are extremely compact (H: 127.7 mm x W: 81 mm x D:25 mm).

Not only is it UMTS-capable, the VPA IV is also designed for operation in W-LAN networks and as a triband phone for GSM/GPRS networks. Users can go online in many different countries to send and receive e-mails or use other data services, even at locations where there is no UMTS network coverage.

The VPA IV is a genuine multimedia talent with two loudspeakers for stereo sound and two advanced cameras for taking and sending photos and video clips or video telephony in the UMTS network, provided that both parties to the call have a video telephony-capable phone and UMTS network coverage.

* The offer is valid in conjunction with the conclusion of a Vodafone customer contract in the Vodafone UMTS Per-Minute Package Plus 100 tariff with a minimum term of 24 months, one-off connection fee of EUR 25, monthly package price of EUR 35, including 100 minutes of free talktime (national standard calls to the Vodafone D2 network or the German fixed network, unused minutes of free talktime cannot be transferred to the subsequent month, 60/1 billing increment) and further usage-based fees, e.g. EUR 0.35 or EUR 0.50/ min for standard domestic calls; EUR 0.19/ 10 KB for national data transfers (rounded off to the nearest 10 KB on disconnection, at least hourly), plus EUR 0.02/h.

Important: This mobile phone only functions with Vodafone D2 SIM cards. If you want to use a SIM card from another provider, you either have to wait 24 months or pay a flat-rate unblocking charge of EUR 100.
