: After having demonstrated High-Speed Download Packet Access (HSDPA)
to corporate customers in August this year, T-Mobile Netherlands this
week became the first Dutch provider to have established a HSDPA connection
on a live network.
Employees
from Planning and Engineering established a live mobile broadband
connection in The Hague on the HSDPA network of T-Mobile and downloaded
several ten-megabyte video files. They used the Option GT 3G+ laptop
card and achieved an average downlink speed of 1.3 megabits per second
(Mbps), with peak rates of 1.6 Mbps. A portion of the 3G network of
T-Mobile Netherlands is already up and running as build-up continues.
In The Hague, part of the UMTS network has already been upgraded to
support HSDPA. Soon a limited number of external users such as T-Mobile
business customers will be able to access the network. The commercial
HSDPA launch is set for next year.
