SK Telecom Releases the World's First PMP Phone

7 November , 2005

ASIA : Starting on November 1st SK Telecom it will release the PMP handset (Model No: SCH-V700 produced by Samsung Electronics) that lets users enjoy both audio and streaming video through a mobile phone. This is a world's first. The company will also install the PMP function in the existing Pantech & Curitel's handset (Model No: PT-S130), and release it in early November of this year.

SK Telecom will release the Portable Multimedia Player (PMP) phone that lets users enjoy both audio and streaming video through a mobile phone. This is a world's first.

The handset, (Model No: SCH-V700) produced by Samsung Electronics, supports a PMP function that lets users reproduce streaming video content e.g. movies and music videos. It also offers 225MB of built-in memory, and 256MB built-out memory (RS-MMC format), as basic options. This memory capacity lets users store a variety of streaming video content, and view it whenever they choose.

The conventional handsets only allowed users to listen to the music and take photos through a phone-camera. However, the newly launched handset lets customers view streaming video through their mobile phone anytime and anywhere. The customer can enjoy it by downloading streaming video files from the Cizle online site (www.cizle.com) to a PC, and then transmitting them from the PC to the mobile phone, through a USB cable.

An SK Telecom official revealed that under the concept of 'Seeing, Listening, and Enjoying', a multimedia phone like the PMP handset can be expected to lead a handset trend at the end of this year as well as next year. In line with this, the company plans to install the PMP function in the existing Pantech & Curitel's handset (Model No: PT-S130), and release it in early November of this year.
