| Sony Ericsson P900 Wireless Smartphone Gets Lift |
25th November, 2003 |
The built-in pvCamcorder, dubbed CommuniCorder by Sony Ericsson, enables P900 users to record their own personal video, including audio, and forward to family or friends as video-enhanced MMS or email messages. "PacketVideo's record of delivering the best quality video and audio experience on important devices like the Sony Ericsson P900 sets the standard for mobile multimedia," said Kathleen Peters, PacketVideo Device Solutions vice president for embedded business development. "With PacketVideo's market leading mobilemedia technology and expertise, we can offer OEMs outsourced custom software solutions to deliver never-seen-before audio-visual quality and flexibility." PacketVideo provides the wireless industry with a proven way to give consumers the most reliable, useful and exciting mobilemedia experience. Building on the success of their custom-built suite of multimedia applications integrated into the pioneering Sony Ericsson P800 launched in early 2003, PacketVideo technology in the new P900 allows users to record video and audio like a camcorder. The P900's CommuniCorder comes complete with a user-selectable set of programmed camera settings (profiles) for optimal video quality. "The high quality multimedia capabilities provided by PacketVideo help make the P900 Communicorder(TM) an invaluable piece of personal technology that delivers a superior user experience in every way," said Steve Walker, Director of Global Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson. "The P900 is our most advanced mobile phone and PacketVideo's new software adds enormous value to its capabilities." "We are delighted to work with Sony Ericsson on the P900 -- the second generation of their flagship smartphone," said Dr. James Brailean, Ph.D., chief executive officer of PacketVideo. "PacketVideo is committed to deliver the highest quality outsourced multimedia solutions to our OEM customers." PacketVideo provided outsource engineering and integration services to implement its industry-proven mobilemedia engines and applications, including 3GPP video capture capability using pvCamcorder(TM), audio playback engine and application (MP3 & AAC and AMR), 3GPP video player engine and application, and still image capture and management software. Additional enhancements give the consumer greater power to manipulate still images and video files, and allows users to sort audio files by title, artist, or other tags. Users can even shoot still images and preserve on a memory stick for later viewing on a memory-stick equipped Sony television or digital camera. Home videos can be converted for the P900 using the PacketVideo Recorder on a PC, so users can show video to friends and relatives. "Advanced Symbian OS-based smartphones equipped with important multimedia features like PacketVideo's pvCamcorder are blazing the path for immersive new services for mobile consumers," said David Wood, Symbian executive vice president. "The Sony Ericsson P900 is a great smartphone package -- and a tribute to PacketVideo's success as a multimedia solution provider for leading handset OEMs." About PacketVideo Device Solutions PacketVideo creates multimedia technology specifically customized for the demanding world of mobile phones and mobile phone users. PacketVideo innovations and engineering leadership make it easy for consumers to create and share their own high-quality multimedia content, watch live events, or enjoy pre-recorded video and audio on their mobile phones.
