| 3G Wireless and Wi-Fi Hook Up |

19th November, 2003 |

Canada : In Motion Technology Inc. ("InMotion") and Lucent Technologies announced an agreement to provide wireless service providers with a solution that integrates third-generation (3G) mobile networks and Wi-Fi networks. Inset above shows InMotion's onBoard Mobile Gateway. This solution enables wireless service providers to take advantage of wide-area 3G CDMA2000® and UMTS/W-CDMA mobile networks to transport data traffic generated by Wi-Fi hot spots, providing business users and consumers with secure, quick and easy access to the Internet and corporate applications from their Wi-Fi-enabled devices in truly mobile environments such as trains, command vehicles, buses and passenger cars. Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate to ensure compatibility of InMotion's onBoard Mobile Gateway, which links the Wi-Fi and 3G networks, with Lucent's 3G CDMA2000 and UMTS/W-CDMA mobile networking equipment. InMotion and Lucent will be conducting live demonstrations of a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network carrying the data traffic of a Wi-Fi hot spot -- at speeds of up to 2.4 Megabits per second -- by leveraging InMotion's onBoard Mobile Gateway in Lucent's booth (#200) at the 2003 CDMA America's Congress tradeshow taking place at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami on Dec. 8-10. Lucent and InMotion will work together to bring this capability to market through joint-marketing and sales activities and technical support of customer lab and field tests. Last March, Lucent conducted its first "Wi-Fi on the Move" demonstration at a major North American wireless trade show. The prototype mobile hotspot gateway used for this initial demonstration was developed by Bell Labs researchers and incorporated all of the necessary Wi-Fi and 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networking components required for a public deployment into a single box - an industry first. "By demonstrating the complementary nature of Wi-Fi access technology and 3G networks, Lucent and InMotion can help service providers deliver mobile high-speed data services to Wi-Fi equipped users," said Mike Iandolo, vice president of CDMA product management, Lucent Technologies' Mobility Solutions Group. "We are pleased to work with InMotion as we help our customers provide people on the move with wireless access to all of the applications they use at home or in the office." "InMotion is focused on providing solutions that combine the mobility of 3G data networks with easy-to-deploy Wi-Fi networks, resulting in seamless connectivity to the Internet for vehicle passengers," said Kirk Moir, President and CEO, In Motion Technology. "We are pleased to work with Lucent to help businesses enhance the productivity of the mobile workforce." |
