US : Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2204, a linear power detector for mobile applications in a tiny, 2mm x 2.2mm, lead-free, 5-pin SC70 package.

Designed to compensate for temperature and process shifts, this power detector reduces output variation to ±0.5dB at full power (5dBm) and to ±1.5dB at low power (-16dBm). This enables fewer end-of-line calibration tests during handset manufacturing.

The MAX2204 uses one of Maxim's state-of-the-art silicon bipolar technologies to achieve this performance, and also operates from 450MHz to 2.5GHz. This performance and flexibility make it ideal for today's demanding closed-loop architecture mobile applications, such as HSDPA/HSUPA, WCDMA, and cdma2000 handset designs.

The MAX2204 features a detection range of -16dBm to +5dBm. It supports both resistive-tapping and directional-coupler architectures. The use of external termination at the input of the device allows a single MAX2204 to be connected to multiple direction couplers.

The MAX2204 is specified over the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. An evaluation kit is available to speed designs. Prices start at $0.39 (10,000-up, FOB USA).

Note :

  • The MAX2204 is a 450MHz to 2.5GHz linear power detector in a 5-pin SC70 package for mobile applications.
  • ±0.5dB power-detection accuracy ensures excellent performance over temperature.
  • The MAX2204 builds on the success of Maxim's previous power detector for NCDMA (the MAX2205) by leveraging Maxim's in-house silicon bipolar fabrication technology.
  • The MAX2204 is ideally suited for mobile applications such as cellular phones and data cards that conform to the demanding HSUPA, HSDPA interface standards, as well as the WCDMA, cdma2000®, and UMTS air interface standards.
