Wi-Fi Hotspot Services via UMTS TD-CDMA
11th May , 2006

Europe Czech Republic : Telabria Networks and IPWireless announced the development of a fully mobile, ruggedised solution for delivering in-vehicle high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity for public and private transport. Telabria's MobilAP enables mobile operators and broadband service providers to offer commercial Wi-Fi hotspot services on the move in trains, taxis, buses, coaches or limousines wherever there is UMTS TD-CDMA coverage.

"Until now, Wi-Fi hotspots have generally been found in fixed locations," said Jim Baker, Telabria CEO and founder. "With an ever-growing number of UMTS TD-CDMA networks in service around the world, the combination of our MobilAP and IPWireless TD-CDMA technology allows deployment of mobile hotspots on vehicles, with Wi-Fi access at multi-megabit speeds." The MobilAP draws power from a vehicle's electrics system, with roof or glass-mount antenna for connecting to the TD-CMDA network. In addition to offering Wi-Fi service, the device also features Ethernet connectivity for IP-based devices such as on-board CCTV, billing and digital entertainment systems, and transport telematics.

"We are delighted to welcome Telabria to our growing ecosystem of device partners" said Dr. William Jones, COO and co-founder of IPWireless. "Bridging Wi-Fi with TD-CDMA, and taking access onto vehicles as Telabria have done, builds on the vision of ubiquitous connectivity and improves the business case for our operators worldwide."

Telabria's MobilAP Wi-Fi solution is available in battery-powered or in-vehicle versions, and supports free and pay-per-use Wi-Fi access business models. Telabria is showing the new TD-CDMA MobilAP at the 5th UMTS TDD Alliance Summit in Prague, Czech Republic May 10th-12th 2006.
