Cellular Wireless TV Comes to Life

Europe : Advanced cellular data services, increased terminal capabilities, and the launch of digital terrestrial TV broadcasting in many countries, are just some of the drivers that have created a market for TV over cellular services. Live TV over cellular services are forecast to be employed by more than 120 million users worldwide by the end of 2010, equating to shipments of approximately 56 million handsets in 2010.

Worldwide, TV services are forecast to have higher penetration rates into CDMA technologies than into GSM-based technologies. In addition, users with access to cdma2000 1xRTT technology are predicted to be the greatest single TV service user group worldwide. The majority of cellular TV subscribers are predicted to use cellular network-based solutions throughout the forecast period. However, ISDB-T and satellite-based services are projected to account for a significant portion of the subscriber base during this time as well.

Asia is expected to see the greatest penetration of cellular TV services, followed by the Americas, Europe, and The Middle East & Africa.
