Verdict for Samsung S7070 Diva

Samsung has thought hard about the Samsung Diva’s target demographic, and it should appeal to the target audience.

Full Review and Specification for the Samsung S7070 Diva

It’s not hard to see who the Samsung Diva is hoping to appeal to. From its pink packing to its diamond-patterned back cover, this is firmly aimed at teenage girls. Bear in mind that your reviewers are rather too old and male to fit this demographic, but we’ll do our best.

Look and feel on the Samsung S7070 Diva

This is a phone that’s all about style. Substance, not so much. The vibrant touch-screen and cute packaging tip you off straight away. The phone comes in white or black and there are very few hard keys to muck up the looks, just a call and call end key and a fancy “diamond” patterned black key.

You also get a load of customisation options, including wallpapers (which will go over all three home screens instead of one for each) and an array of fonts. Once you choose a font, all your content will appear in that font, including websites, so choose wisely.

Capacitive touch-screen on the Samsung S7070 Diva

While the 2.8-inch keyboard isn’t the biggest, it is large enough for a virtual QWERTY keyboard – but there isn’t one, strangely. It’s a capacitive touch-screen, which is our preferred option and a bonus on a phone at this price point. It makes for a far smoother experience than a resistive touch-screen would, although we did encounter a few problems. For example, when dragging widgets over from the shortcut bar to the display, accidently brushing on an icon would open it up, when we only wanted to swipe to another page.

Social networking on the Samsung S7070 Diva

Of course the stylish target audience for the Samsung Diva will be social networkers and to facilitate this, the most popular sites can be found on the widget toolbar. You don’t get push notifications but a simple press of the refresh button on the corner of each widget will give you the latest Facebook and Twitter updates.

You will be automatically logged in when you switch the phone on so no annoying retyping of user names and passwords, and the communities option lets you from a list from a wide selection of social networks. This makes uploading your pics is a simple process, although the 3.2-megapixel camera with no flash means the photos will be far from great. And no 3G connection means that surfing the sites is slow, with only EDGE data speeds to rely on.

If there was any doubt that the Samsung Diva is a phone for teenage girls, the ‘Wish List’ option should dispel it. The virtual shopping list lets you make a note of things you’re after, record your purchases along with price, and even remind you to buy things on the list. It’s certainly novel, and should appeal to the target audience.

The verdict on the Samsung S7070 Diva

Samsung certainly knew its demographic when designing the Samsung Diva, and it hits the target in both style and features. It’s not the best phone ever, but should appeal to teenage girls – and the price tag won’t put off the parents either.
