US : TelASIC Communications announced immediate availability of its fan-less 60W RRH. The IP-65 compliant 60W RRH ( inset above ) is the latest member of TelASIC’s current portfolio of fan-less pole/wall/tower-mountable 20W and 40W RRHs for WCDMA/HSDPA infrastructure. For future-proofing operators' migration to the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard, TelASIC's 60W RRH product is LTE-ready.

"I am pleased to note that TelASIC is introducing fan-less Remote Radio Heads with 60W transmit power,” said Miguel Arranz, Head of Radio Products, Vodafone Group Plc. “As our revenue from data services continues to grow, we see an increasing need for higher transmit power to scale the capacity and extend the coverage required to support more and more data subscribers. Vodafone encourages solution providers to continue to innovate so that we can offer better services to our subscriber base."

Operators all over the world are spending large CAPEX dollars to build 3G cellular and other mobile broadband infrastructures to offer TV, music, gaming, social networking, broadband Internet and other ARPU-rich data services. High-speed data applications, unlike voice applications, require an order of magnitude higher RF transmission power. Traditional in-cabinet radio systems that are designed for voice applications are not capable of delivering such high power at the antenna in a cost-effective way. Mast-head capable RRHs are becoming the deployment option of choice by operators worldwide, enabling them to transmit high power at the antenna and to provide the coverage necessary for high-speed data services.

The leading wireless operators started successful deployment of RRHs in 2006 in live networks. Over the next few years, RRHs are expected to be the default solution of choice for 3G cellular networks.

"The introduction of flat-rate ’all-you-can-eat’ data services coupled with the introduction of innovative web-enabled handsets like the iPhoneTM is fueling an accelerated take rate of data services," said Ashis Khan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at TelASIC. "To keep up with the rapid addition of data subscribers while maintaining high data rates and best coverage, operators are adding more WCDMA carriers for increased capacity and increasing the transmit power per carrier. Basestation OEMs are facing the demand for transmission at 60W and beyond to meet these needs. TelASIC is delighted to introduce its fan-less 60W Remote Radio Heads to serve this growing demand."

Availability and Pricing

TelASIC is shipping the 60W RRH (part number 20100-60W) to its customers for software and hardware integration with their Node B and Radio Network Controllers (RNCs). TelASIC is currently taking orders for 60W RRH. In field-trial quantities of 30 units, the product is priced at US$10,000 per unit.
