Java is expected to reach 1.5 billion consumers by 2007 according to some industry analysts. The paper entitled, The Wireless Java(TM) Application Environment: An Executive Overview details the areas of: Java standards development; the role of technology suppliers and application developers; testing and certification; developers? tools; and various deployment scenarios for operators. ?Java is a critical element in stimulating the adoption of mobile data services for GSM operators today,? stated Chris Pearson, President of 3G Americas. ?More than 110 operators worldwide have already deployed Java services, and there are more than a half billion J2ME-capable* mobile devices in 399 unique models. The magnitude of Java services growth is remarkable as operators are expected to increase these service revenues to $15 billion by 2008, according to some industry analysts.?
