Lucent Technologies Awarded CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Network Contract

Cayman Islands : Lucent Technologies announced that it has been awarded a contract by T-Systems and caymanone(TM) to provide a multi-vendor, third-generation (3G) network and managed services in the Cayman Islands.

The Lucent CDMA2000(R) 1xEV-DO (evolution data optimized) network will enable caymanone(TM) to provide mobile data services at speeds of up to 2.4 Megabits, up to 6 times faster than the fastest wireless network available in the CaymanIslands today.

Inset is the

T-Systems is operating under contract to caymanone(TM) to build, operate and maintain a next generation network, to provide enhanced voice and data services across the Cayman Islands. The companies chose Lucent Technologies as a key technology and services partner, to deliver the fastest and most advanced wireless data network in the Caribbean. The network will be built in two phases,commencing with a market and technical trial in the second quarter, followed by a full network build-out by the end of 2005.

"Now, caymanone(TM) can focus on delivering high- quality broadband access and roaming services to its residential and business customers in the Cayman Islands."

This network will consist of Lucent's Flexent ( see above ) CDMA2000 base stations, Mobile Switching Centers, components of Lucent's IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) portfolio, including the Lucent Feature Server, and Juniper Networks M40 routing platforms.

"caymanone(TM) will now be able to focus its core business on providing high-quality, high-speed 3G mobile data services to its residential and business customers."

caymanone(TM) customers will be able to download data on their mobile devices at speeds close to their high speed connections at work or home. With speeds of up to 2.4 mbps, customers will be able to use data-rich content and run applications such as e-mail, video messaging, gaming and videoconferencing.

T-Systems and caymanone(TM) join 39 service providers around the world who are leveraging the expertise of Lucent Worldwide Services in managing complex communications systems to ensure the quality and reliability of their networks. Lucent has announced more than $300 million in managed services contracts over the last two years. Lucent supports more than 200 different vendors and 1,325 products overall and more than 30 percent of its customer engagements are multivendor.
